adidas Consortium Evo 4D

21 . 12 . 19

In their follow-up to the Consortium 4D Runner, however, the Consortium team once again keep things in-house, focusing on the craftsmanship, athlete-driven data and high-performance technologies and craftsmanship at the core of the adidas brand. It is these qualities that made the original 4D Runner such an instantly iconic example of the very best that modern sporting footwear can offer; it is these same qualities that carry over into this new evolved take.

Perhaps the most striking element of the new shoe is the 4D midsole, which has also provided the foundation for a number of memorable Consortium collaborations in recent times with partners such as KITH, Sneakersnstuff, Invincible and Footpatrol. 4D is the world’s first high-performance midsole for runners to utilize adidas’ Digital Light Synthesis technology. The result is a lattice-like construction created from light, air and over 20,000 struts that can be individually tuned to maximize control on energy return.

Meanwhile, the uppers on this second iteration feature a seamless mix of Primeknit and synthetic suede for an engineered fit with a premium finish. The uppers also feature refined geometric patterning, rendered in shades of collegiate navy, white and black. The three stripes and tongue detailing meanwhile offer a splash of cool mint-green that mirrors the distinctive colouring of the 4D midsole. The end-product is a shoe that takes the defining characteristics of a high-performance runner and fuses them to the aesthetic, street-ready sensibility that has been honed by the Consortium family over countless collaborations.

adidas Originals by alexander wang

14 . 12 . 19

For five seasons, adidas Originals by Alexander Wang has challenged the concept of fashion collaborations by subverting convention. From turning the Originals trefoil upside down to reimagining performance silhouettes, Alexander Wang’s approach to the iconic brand has been clear—to hack every element at hand.

To create the final season, Alexander Wang evolved the “Club Leisure” narrative by immersing it in the dark world of underground tech. Together with progressive materials and disco-inspired details, the Season 06 collection brings the collective cultural understanding of hacking to life with a futuristic look and feel.

Inspired by the collection and its surrounding ethos, the campaign connects the fashion-loving community to the digitally-savvy by combining both worlds in one.

Authentically rooted in the digital underground, the campaign imagery uses three-dimensional art and animation to subversively celebrate the collection by destroying it—shoes melt, jackets explode, and bodysuits are cut into pieces by a laser field.

Bringing this world IRL, The Last Hack immerses fans in a physi cal experience where hackers compete to win audience members deadstock from past seasons.

In celebration of this legendary collaboration, these assets work together to create Alexander Wang’s final goodbye to adidas Originals in the most playful ways imaginable.

Catty Tay is one of the most progressive digital artists creating work today.

Through Catty Tay’s iconic lens, Season 06 is immersed in the darkest corners of the deep web, inhabiting a digital underground where clothes are destroyed and models don’t exist.

This approach celebrates the collection with a playful look and feel true to hacker culture and the collections subversive spirit.

adidas FYW S-97 Salvation x 032c

032c are back for another collaborative release in the form of the adidas  FYW S-97 Salvation model. As many of Joerg Koch’s – founder end editor-in-chief of the art/fashion culture magazine – apparel and footwear projects have been, colors, and branding are kept to a very minimum as this updated offering gets outfitted in creamy white and grey hues applied towards its mesh and suede constructions. However, the German-based artist has also decided to rework the classic silhouette by introducing a new foam tongue that sits just below its rope lacing system. Branded elements via 032c logos are feature on the heel caps, in addition to the co-branded insoles that lay against a red backdrop.

The upper of the FYW S-97 Salvation is constructed from mesh, suede, and leather materials, as the sneaker boasts a guard above the tongue. A semi-translucent outsole is applied below, while 032c branding tags the heel, and co-branding is noted on the tongue and insoles.

Y-3 SS20 DROP 01 – CRAFT

For the first drop of Y-3’s Spring/Summer 2020 collection, the brand looks inward in order to explore its heritage. Brought together under the theme of Craft, this initial offering ushers the unique craftsmanship of Yohji Yamamoto to the fore with a range of elevated Y-3 products.

Elegant silhouettes are matched with luxurious textiles and multi-layer constructions, highlighting the careful craftsmanship at the heart of the theme. Staying true to the brand’s roots and drawing on classic Yohji-Yamamoto tailoring, the clothing designs experiment playfully with dramatic proportions. Similarly, the theme features embroidered graphics, inspired by the iconic Japanese motorcycle subculture, Bosozoku. An ode to artisanal design, these embroidered graphics reference the phonetic Katakana for Y-3 as well as the phonetic Kanji for ‘I LOVE YOU’, while the prominent ‘Roaring Black Crow’ graphic is both a subtle nod to one of Yohji Yamamoto’s early nicknames and, simultaneously, the loud sounds of the Bosozoku motorcycles. Utilising premium fabrics such as refined wool, the garments feature elegant micro-trims as well as subtle three-stripes detailing.

Matching the garment offering’s progressive design approach are a number of new avant-garde footwear styles. Spearheaded by the Y-3 KAIWA and Y-3 RHISU RUN, each sneaker brings an

innovative aesthetic outlook that has come to be expected from the brand. Now firmly established in the Y-3 range, the Y-3 KAIWA silhouette receives a sleek design update. Meanwhile, fuelled by the best of innovative adidas technologies like BOOST™, the brand new Y-3 RHISU RUN propels every move with energycharged comfort. The sneaker’s lightweight design is crafted with a breathable, dual-layer mesh upper, while leather, suede and reflective details add a striking visual edge.

Accompanying the drop is a visually elegant campaign that pays tribute to the craftsmanship painstakingly built into each and every garment throughout the existence of the Y-3 brand. Set in an atelier, the campaign positions models as if they were in a garment fitting in order to highlight the details in the details; from stitches, to fabric selection, to hardware and beyond.

Y-3 Spring/Summer 2020 drop one, Craft, is available from the 5th December at limitEDitions Barcelona, Y-3 flagship stores and in a selection of retailers worldwide.

30 . 11 . 19

For FW19, adidas Originals headed to Fairfax, Los Angeles to team up with one of the West Coast’s most sought-after brands, 424.

The retail pioneer turned streetwear pioneer brings a clean, contemporary edge to three classic staples from the adidas footwear vaults.

424 was co-founded by Guillermo Andrade, whose determination to succeed was first forged during the arduous journey that he and his family took from his birthplace of Guatemala to the United States when he was just eight years old. As an adolescent, he channelled this determination into crafting an aesthetic that was wholly his own, one that would make him stand out amongst his peers. This formed the genesis of FourTwoFour on Fairfax, an iconic Los Angeles retail destination for those who also wanted to break from the norms and wear things a little differently. In 2014, this naturally evolved (via a highly sought-after jewellery line) into Andrade starting the 424 clothing and jewelry line: built on traditional silhouettes but filtered through his own unmistakably of-the-now streetwear aesthetic.

For his first collaboration with adidas Originals, Andrade applied that same vision to three classic adidas footwear models. Despite his undoubtedly contemporary design instincts, Andrade leans on the cleaner, more refined aspects of his sensibilities, ensuring that each shoe feels utterly fresh while still retaining the timeless craftsmanship and attention-todetail that has come to define adidas’ sporting heritage over the decades.

First up, Andrade turned to the SC Premier, an already minimalist model that harks back to a golden age of tennis shoe design. In Andrade’s hands, the shoe is stripped back even further: one pair arrives utterly blacked out while the other is an all-off-white affair; both are crafted from full grain leather and suede. Exterior logos of any sort are limited to a subtle laser engraved 424 logo on lateral of tooling and the co-branding on the tongue, which is also the only part of the shoe to feature a pop of color – the scarlet red patch that has become synonymous with the 424 brand in recent years.

The third pair takes the form of the Pro Model. It’s a classic basketball shoe of the 1970s, but here draws equal cues from its 80s iteration, when it became indelibly linked to the hiphop scene that Andrade loved growing up. Essentially a hi-cut version of the inimitable adidas Superstar, its calling card is, of course, that iconic shell toe updated with the “double layer foxing tape” tooling. Again, Andrade strips the shoe back to showcase its core qualities, with a chalk white finish and cold cement tooling. That distinctive flash of scarlet comes this time on the heel, a subtly placed yet unmistakeable signifier for one of LA’s most singular brands.

adidas Originals by 424 will be available at limitEDitions Barcelona on 30th November.
